New administrator activity requirement

[edit]

The administrator policy has been updated with new activity requirements following a successful Request for Comment.

Beginning January 1, 2023, administrators who meet one or both of the following criteria may be desysopped for inactivity if they have:

  1. Made neither edits nor administrative actions for at least a 12-month period OR
  2. Made fewer than 100 edits over a 60-month period

Administrators at risk for being desysopped under these criteria will continue to be notified ahead of time. Thank you for your continued work.

The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

Administrative permissions and inactivity reminder

[edit]

Information iconThis is a reminder that established policy provides for removal of the administrative permissions of users who have made fewer than 100 edits over a 60-month period. You are receiving this annual reminder since you have averaged less than 50 edits per year over the last 5 years.

Inactive administrators are encouraged to reengage with the project in earnest rather than to make token edits to avoid loss of administrative permissions. Resources and support for reengaging with the project are available at Wikipedia:WikiProject Editor Retention/administrators. If you do not intend to be engaged with the project in the foreseeable future, please consider voluntarily resigning your administrative permissions by making a request at the bureaucrats' noticeboard.

Thank you for your past contributions to the project. — JJMC89 bot 00:44, 1 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

DYK

[edit]

Hiya. Would you have any issues if I nominated the Cork railway tunnel article for a "did you know" entry? Something in the "longest operational rail tunnel in Ireland [..] 2 million bricks [..] etc etc" line? Guliolopez (talk) 18:12, 8 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds great. Go ahead and do it. I was thinking along the sames lines but couldn't think of a hook, but that's a nice one. --Tóraí (talk) 22:03, 8 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. Apologies. I tried to take some time to find additional sources to support the "hook". Including the "2 million bricks" piece. And, while I found and added an additional source, it actually conflicted with the existing. With the clock ticking on the 7-day rule for DYK, I couldn't figure out a new/compromise hook. And that window is now passed. Another time... Guliolopez (talk) 17:13, 13 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Old IP indef

[edit]

Hi, Tóraí. I was looking through old IP indefs and came upon Special:Contribs/76.16.222.162. There's a good chance that that IP address has been reassigned in the 12 years since it was blocked, so would you object to my unblocking it? Thanks. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she|they|xe) 21:16, 18 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Tamzin, that sounds probable. I've looked back at the history and it appears like it was nothing but vandalism from that IP over an extended period. But, yes, it's probable that it has been reassigned since. Happy to let you unblock and we can keep an eye on it. -- Tóraí (talk) 22:08, 19 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Ireland48cstamp.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Ireland48cstamp.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Vanjagenije (talk) 23:01, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to participate in a research

[edit]

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

WMF Research Team
